A False Dawn

By Malachi Edwin Vethamani

A False Dawn

We sang a song of victory.
Raised a new flag.
Held our heads high.
Shouted new slogans.

A new nation we said
has risen bursting
through the dark clouds.
Malaysia Baru.

Then came Deceit,
old Greed reared its ugly head,
murky waters returned
and undid us all.
