For My Lover

By Koushiki Dasgupta Chaudhuri

FOR MY LOVER

I was a woman
Stranded unto an island
Cold as the clams that rocked beneath my feet

Till you breathed
Fire into my veins
Your siren song upon my ears

Left sawdust on my skin
So easy to blow away
So difficult to keep

Now that you are gone
I sing your songs
To every shell I meet
